Friends of Gunn Memorial Library is composed of a
group of citizens who have joined together to focus
attention and stimulate public interest in services,
facilities, and the needs of Gunn Memorial Public
Library. They also work to raise funds for the
library and to encourage increased usage of the
library by the general population.
In
the past year, this nonprofit organization has
underwritten costs of children’s programming
(including summer reading); sponsored the December
Holiday Festival, and provided flexible support to
library needs as they arose during the year. In
addition, in 2004 Friends initiated an Adult Summer
Reading program. Patrons read books, wrote comments
about their readings, and registered for prizes. We
are pleased that 50 patrons signed up for our first
Summer Reading. This year, Friends also co-sponsored,
with the Caswell Council of the Arts, “The Art of . .
. “ adult program series such topics as scrapbooking,
nature poetry, reading to children, photography,
floral design, and the British mysteries.
In
Fall 2004, Friends is pleased to sponsor two programs
for senior adults and two computer workshops. For more

events and storytime, please visit

“A great library needs more than books; it needs
Friends.”
