DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Position is responsible for assisting clients who are in need of public assistance programs and services such as Family and Children’s Medicaid, Work First, Crisis, Energy Assistance, etc. Work involves receiving and maintaining cases for public assistance in accordance with established rules, regulations, and procedures including interviewing customers for assistance to determine eligibility, making referrals, coordination with outside community agencies for the provision of assistance and services, and interpreting policies and procedures related to eligibility. The position works under the supervision of the Income Maintenance Supervisor II and Lead Worker. Applicant must possess excellent computer skills in order to use NC FAST, NC Tracks, and North Carolina’s online case management system. This position requires knowledge of policy and procedures related to eligibility, determination and re-determination as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and educational levels.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical tasks with at least one year of such experience in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience including interviewing, explaining information, the gathering, compiling, and analysis of data; and one year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be able to participate in shelter duty. Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
