Commissioners Hire New County Manager

The Caswell County Board of Commissioners voted last night to hire Scott Meszaros as the county manager effective February 5, 2024.  The commissioners met in closed session and approved the employment agreement in open session.  In addition, the Board voted to eliminate the vacant assistant county manager position as a cost savings measure.

Meszaros has over 23 years of local government experience in rapidly growing communities. His diverse background includes tenures as City Manager, Town Administrator/Treasurer, City Clerk and Grants Administrator.

The commissioners engaged the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) to conduct a nationwide county manager search.  Early in the process, NCACC staff met with the board to create a candidate profile of attributes and characteristics they desired in the new manager and to develop a structured process with multiple layers of evaluation. After narrowing the applicant pool, the commissioners interviewed three candidates.

“I am so pleased that commissioners remained dedicated to this extensive and thorough process of evaluating candidates for our next leader.  Mr. Meszaros has the background and experience to manage our county government team,” said Chairman Jeremiah Jefferies.

Meszaros holds an MPA in Public Management and is a Certified Municipal Clerk and an ICMA Credentialed Manager. Scott recently completed the City County Manager program at the UNC School of Government in May of 2023.  He also served in the U.S. Navy at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

“I am so excited to be coming in as part of the Caswell County leadership team.  I come to you with eager anticipation of the great work that we will do together.  I look forward to learning about each of you and gathering your best ideas for how we can achieve excellence and take this organization and community to even greater heights,” said Meszaros.

Scott and his wife Stacey live in Hope Mills, NC and have three children.  He is an avid bowhunter and outdoor enthusiast and he looks forward to becoming a resident of Caswell County.
