Pay Range: $14.00 – $18.25 per hour (No Benefits)

General Statement of Duties
Caswell County is seeking a dependable and motivated individual for a Part-Time Landfill Assistant / Truck Driver position. This role supports operations and maintenance at county-owned solid waste sites. Responsibilities include a mix of equipment operation, site maintenance, and customer service. This is not a driving-only position—we welcome applicants with or without a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Position Overview
This part-time position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has mechanical aptitude, and wants to contribute to keeping Caswell County’s waste management sites clean and functional. Work includes manual labor, assisting with compactor maintenance, driving (if CDL-qualified), and helping customers. Flexibility, reliability, and a strong work ethic are essential.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with general upkeep and cleanliness of landfill and convenience sites.
Operate light or heavy equipment as qualified (e.g., trucks, compactors).
Perform routine maintenance tasks on site equipment (e.g., replacing wheels or lids).
Assist with customer weighing, recordkeeping, and scale house operations.
Transport solid waste to appropriate disposal sites (if CDL-qualified).
Provide courteous customer service to residents using the waste facilities.
Complete routine paperwork such as maintenance logs.
Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
Open and close waste sites as scheduled.
Perform physical labor such as lifting, hauling, and basic site repairs.
Qualifications and Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
At least one (1) year of relevant experience preferred (maintenance, solid waste, trucking, equipment operation).
Valid NC driver's license required.
CDL Class B preferred but not required (CDL-holders may drive refuse trucks).
Non-CDL applicants will serve in a landfill assistant role and may be eligible for training.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work in extreme weather conditions.
Basic mechanical skills and ability to operate tools and machinery safely.
Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position involves strenuous physical activity in outdoor environments. Must be able to safely lift, carry, bend, kneel, and operate around heavy equipment in various weather conditions.
