Pay Scale: $22,772 - $31,000 per year
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Performs routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in the custodial care of County buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employees in this class performs a variety of routine housekeeping duties in various County buildings. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures, supplemented by instructions on new or unusual assignments. Work involves the use of a variety of tools and light equipment. Work includes cleaning floors, windows, bathrooms, replacing paper supplies, and routine grounds maintenance immediately adjacent to the building. The employees exercise some independent judgment and initiative in determining the level of cleaning required for an area and in following product directions. The employees are subject to working in both inside and outside environments and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals and human body fluids and thus is subject to OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation and inspection to determine thoroughness in carrying out assigned duties; and feedback on quality and timeliness of work
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
· Cleans buildings; vacuums, mops, sweeps, dusts furniture, cleans restrooms and restroom fixtures; cleans windows; shampoos carpet; and sanitizes door handles, water fountains and other items subject to being touched.
· Maintains bathrooms in a sanitary condition; cleans toilets, sinks, mirrors, floors; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensers.
· Performs sweeping sidewalks, and removing trash.
· Takes trash to designated dumpster.
· Cleans windows and walls; washes out trash containers.
· Notifies supervisor of supply needs; maintains supplies at each location in neat order.
· Drives County vehicle to various County building locations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
· Working knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of light equipment, and materials used in assigned work.
· Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work.
· Skill in the use of assigned tools and equipment.
· Ability to identify cleaning needs and address with appropriate methods and supplies.
· Ability to prepare simple records of work activities.
· Ability to work productively without close supervision.
· Ability to respond courteously to County employees and the public.
· Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers.
· Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid NC driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Six months to one year of custodial, janitorial, facilities, or building maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience in a government, school, medical, or commercial setting preferred but not required.
• Experience using commercial cleaning equipment preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ADA COMPLIANCE
· Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing,
· stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
· Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally; 10 pounds of force frequently; and a negligible amount of force constantly.
· Must possess the visual acuity to operate light equipment such as the vacuum cleaners and small trucks in a safe manner.
