Landfill Truck Driver / Solid Waste Specialist - Full Time Position (with Benefits)

Salary Range: $32,106.00 - $38,986.00


General Statement of Duties

 

Performs routine manual work and maintenance of county owned Solid Waste sites. Drive and Operate equipment.

 

Distinguishing Features of the Class


An employee in this class is responsible for the performance of various maintenance duties necessary to keep all county solid waste locations is good working condition. Must be able to operate large truck and load and unload containers.  Work is performed under general supervision and the incumbent is expected to exercise initiative in the performance of tasks.  Work is reviewed by observation and inspection to determine that work assignments have been properly carried out and that standards.

 

Primary Duties


  • Drives trucks on assigned routes. 

  • Operator small and large equipment

  • Cleans areas around truck or worksite as required.

  • Opens the main center for daily use and secures at end of day.

  • Maintains paperwork on truck maintenance.

  • Drives truck to the landfill for disposal of debris.

  • Operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor, and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.

  • Good customer services skills to meet and exceed customer expectations; acts in a professional, courteous, and cooperative manner toward customers and co-workers; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness.

  • Follows relevant safety practices in performance of all duties.

  • Performs minor maintenance on reuse and recycle containers to include replacing bars, wheels, and lids.

  • Assists other departments and agencies as needed.

  • Operator the scale house

  • Performs related duties as required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

·         Knowledge of tools, materials and methods used in the solid waste industry to collect and dispose of reuse, recycle and vegetative debris.

·         Knowledge of the operational and preventative maintenance requirements for equipment and vehicles assigned to perform primary duties.

·         Knowledge of street locations and the geographic layout of the County.

·         Ability to perform strenuous manual work at a steady pace and under austere weather conditions.

·         Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

·         Ability to understand and follow oral and simple written instructions.

·         Ability to read and write.

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other county employees.

 

Physical Requirements

 

The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, dexterity, and full range of motion. The following additional physical abilities are also required: climbing, crouching, kneeling, manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work is generally performed in inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposed to various hazards, including exposure to loud noises, proximity to moving mechanical parts, dangerous and high traffic conditions, exposure to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and oils. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental risks which require a range of safety and other precautions. Use of safe work practices with equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals are required. Employees will be required to wear other appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shield.

 

Minimum Experience and Training:


High school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience in maintenance work or related job duties


Special Requirement

 

Drivers’ License (Class B CDL)

Must be 18 years of age.
